This past Friday, 23 September 2011, I helped my good friends Tim and Joel do some demolition work at the new CrossFit Tustin gym. I am stoked for these guys for they were approved by the City of Tustin to use the site for their gym. Anyhow, I got there a little past noon and went straight to work. I was ripping off the old carpet. I felt like I dominated the task, but the job proved rather difficult. Whoever applied the adhesive on the sub-floor put way TOO much. What that meant for me and the other workers were squatting low and pulling hard to rip the carpet off the floor.
Joel, Brittany, Tim, and Matt worked on one section of the site were they removed the doors, a glass window panel, fault ceilings, fiber glass insulation, and broke down the drywall. I was a one-man show for awhile until I got some help from Matt and Tim to remove the carpet.
We took a lunch break around 2pm and went to WholeFoods in Tustin Marketplace. Tim complained about the horrid construction and development of its parking lot. We enjoyed some good food, beer and side conversations. We tasted some cheeses as well! At the end, Matt and I shared a drink as I bought the 32 ounce Power drink up front in a juice booth. It was the worst service ever. I waited for my drink for more than 15 minutes as Tim and Matt waited for me outside in the car. They literally had 5 employees at the booth, but only one person who made the drinks. I was reluctant to say anything, but I should have been more assertive! Anyway, I got the drink and tried to catch up with the guys. We stopped by at Lowe's and Tim bought a wire cutter/pliers.
We got back to the new site and went back to work. Before Joel left to teach the 5pm class at the current CrossFit Tustin gym, he waited for the deconstruction and collapse of a wall that he and the others worked on earlier in the morning. There was minimal damage to the adjacent fault ceiling as the wall collapsed. We ended the work day before six and we all went to the current gym and worked out.
